The BJP today demanded an immediate announcement by the government that it is willing to form a JPC to probe the 2G spectrum scam, saying such a move would ensure smooth functioning of Parliament in the budget session.
"The government can call the opposition parties and inform them that they are for a JPC...it is the biggest remedy to ensure a smooth functioning of Parliament," BJP spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain told reporters.
Responding to a volley of questions on whether BJP would stall the proceedings of Parliament if the announcement was not made ahead of the Budget session beginning February 21, he said the party will "wait till Parliament begins".
When asked if government can announce formation of Joint Parliamentary Committee outside Parliament, he said the opposition can at least be informed that government was ready for it.
"They can host lunches and dinners for opposition leaders. But they should call them to inform about their willingness...While BJP wants that Parliament should discharge its responsibilities, the government must also facilitate the same by constituting JPC," he said.
