Three persons were charred to death when their car caught fire after hitting a cement block near here in the wee hours today, police said.
As per preliminary information, the three persons were on their way to Otur town in Pune district.
The car driver apparently lost control over the wheels following which it hit a cement block and immediately caught fire at around 1.30 am near Wadgaon Anand village in Junnar tehsil, about 95 kms from here, a police official said.
Some locals rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire. They informed the police who rushed to the spot and the victims were pulled out of the car, he said.
The police rushed the three men to a hospital where they were declared dead, the official said.
He said a technical examination by officials of the regional transport office would reveal the exact cause of the fire, and the reason why the occupants could not come out of the car when it got engulfed in flames.
The deceased were identified as Naresh Wagh, Dilipchandra Navale and Prashant Chaskar, all residents of Alephata town in the district, police added.
