The Mumbai-Pune expressway witnessed yet another mishap of vehicle jumping over the median and hitting vehicle coming from other direction on Wednesday morning in which three people lost their lives while eight sustained injuries near Khalapur.
According to the police, occupants of one of the vehicles were travelling to Adlabs Imagica in Khopoli when their vehicle collided with another vehicle near Khalapur on the expressway. The victims have been identified as Shubham Gorakhnath Borade, Anant Narendra Parekh and Asmit Suhas Tawade. The injured persons include Ram Pratap, Yash Parekh, both from Pune, Aditya Acharya from Vikroli, Shubham Palande, Shubham Saroj, Adil Shah and Sohail Shaikh, all from Chembur Mumbai. The injured persons have beem admitted to MGM hospital in Kamothe.
According to the Khalapur police, a sports utility vehicle (SUV) carrying nine persons was travelling in Mumbai- Pune direction while the other car was travelling in the opposite direction. When the SUV reached near Dhamani village, the SUV driver lost control of the vehicle and it toppled.
"After toppling twice, the SUV crossed the median and hit the car which was in the opposite lane. Both the vehicles were badly damaged and the occupants were trapped inside the vehicles. It was with the help of local residents and expressway staff, we managed to bring them out of the vehicles," a police officer from Khalapur police station said.
