It should be noted that municipal school board member Habib Mew had earlier made a representation before the board to get the Jamalapur Urdu School No 9-10 repaired.

A three-storey school building owned by the Ahmedabad Municipal School Board in Jamalpur ward collapsed on Thursday. As it was early morning, nobody was present in the building or near it and hence no casualty was reported.

It should be noted that municipal school board member Habib Mew had earlier made a representation before the board to get the Jamalapur Urdu School No 9-10 repaired.

However, the school board authorities did not take the matter seriously.

Moreover, Congress corporator from Jamalpur ward Imran Khedawala had also asked the civic authority to either repair the building or demolish it before the monsoon. The representation was made during the monsoon meeting of the central zone, just 14 hours before the accident took place.

Had the building collapsed in the later part of the day, many casualties would have been reported as it is a popular meeting place in the area.

During his earlier representation, Mew had said that more than 500 students used to study in the school but the numbers decreased drastically after it was shifted to another place in 2008.
When reports last came in, none of the AMC officials or BJP leaders had visited the spot of accident.
