34 killed in thunderstorms in Uttar Pradesh

Thunderstorm uprooted trees and poles at a number of places in the state, disrupting traffic movement on national highways.

Atleast 34 people were killed as thunderstorms struck different parts of Uttar Pradesh, uprooting trees, snapping power lines and disrupting traffic since last evening.

Seven persons were killed in Shahjahanpur, six in Farukkhabad, five in Sitapur, four in Kannauj, three each in Lakhimpur and Pilibhit, two each in Hardoi and Unnao and one each in Badaun and Barabanki in storm related incidents, officials said today.

Thunderstorm uprooted trees and poles at a number of places in the state, disrupting traffic movement on national highways, they said.

Power supply was also affected in several districts including the state capital.
