Perhaps for the first time in the history of Gujarat police, 39 constables of Ahmedabad city police have been transferred to other districts.
Sources in the police department said the constables were transferred allegedly because they were ‘vahivatdaars’ (constables who reportedly collect pay-offs from bootleggers for the city’s entire police force). Constables and head constables from different city police stations, prevention of crime branch (PCB), the police commissioner’s office and from Ahmedabad crime branch have been transferred to other districts.
Thirteen constables have been transferred from the PCB to different districts, while six have been transferred from the crime branch. Several constables posted at the police control room and the special branch, have also been transferred.
