4 more Nigerians held by Government railway police of Ahmedabad
The four were nabbed from Delhi; they are not involved in fake currency scam but they have overstayed, say cops.
In a major breakthrough, the Government Railway Police (GRP) of Ahmedabad nabbed four Nigerian nationals from New Delhi and brought them to the city on Monday. From their passports, it was revealed that all of them were living in the country though their visas had expired several months back. These men were identified as Chinmeram Benjamin (30), Williams Okoro (27), Domini Azoba (33), and Aboroge Festers (34).
After arresting Nigerian national Chimmeji Obeyu Kirian from Kalupur railway station 10 days back, the GRP had formed a team to search his house on Pandara Road in New Delhi. According to GRP inspector, PP Pirozia, officials found one passport, Rs5,000 and some photographs from the house. Police also learned that one of the Nigerians, Bahama, living in the house had fled some time back.
"Officials also realised that some other Nigerians were living in a house adjacent to Chimmeji's rented house there. On the suspicion of their involvement with Chimmeji, we brought them to the city a few days back," said Pirozia.
GRP officials also seized three laptops along with the passports of the four. From the passports, officials came to know that all of them have overstayed in India. To find clues regarding the suspected fake currency racket, the police have handed over the laptops to the FSL, Gandhinagar.
"They were living in India even after their visa had expired many months ago. We have informed the Indian as well as Nigerian embassies about this. We have also informed the Delhi police commissioner to probe into the case further," said Pirozia.
On October 23, GRP arrested Chimmeji from Kalupur railway station and recovered fake currency notes, along with some other fake US government documents from him.
GRP also found a box containing white powder, a cover bearing the stamp of the US Mint Authority and a bottle containing some suspicious liquid.
Further probe revealed that the documents inside the cover had misleading and fake letter heads of some US government firms - International Development Bureau of Printing, Washington.
Form his e-ticket, GRP found that Chimmeji had travelled to the city in Rajdhani Express from Delhi. He is a native of the Alakazi region in Lagos, Nigeria, and has a residence at Pandara Road in New Delhi.
After obtaining a 10-day remand for him, GRP raided his house and nabbed the other Nigerians.
"They are not directly involved in the fake currency scam, but since they are living illegally, we on Wednesday handed them over to the Delhi police to investigate their stay and their activities during their stay," said Pirozia.
