These fishermen hailed from various districts of the state, Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar said in a statement.

Jayakumar said that they arrived by an Air India Flight.

They were employed on a contractual basis in Iran and were stuck in the country due to the coronavirus-necessitated lockdown.

Last month, the Indian government deployed Indian Navy Ship Jalashwa to ferry 687 stranded Indian fishermen from Iran last month. But, the group could not come then.

The Fisheries Minister said that they were sent to Kanyakumari, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Ramanathapuram, and Chengelpet districts in separate vehicles.
