Angered by the indifference of the manager of a toll tax booth towards a dying employee, staff members stopped work at all the six offices being run by the company that runs the counter. The incident took place at Ranasan toll tax booth near Naroda which is run by Sadbhaav Company.

According to case details, Mayur Prajapati, (22) toll tax collection officer at Ranasan booth and resident of Odhav, was crushed to death by a speeding bus of Bishnoi Travels.

The bus had reached the toll tax booth at 9.15pm on Tuesday night. The tax to be paid was Rs73, but the driver gave Rs71 claiming that he did not have change. This led to a dispute and the cleaner of the bus had to intervene. The dispute left the driver in a bad mood and he drove the bus away in full speed.

Due to some repair work going on inside the office, the employees were working in the open. Prajapati too was standing there when the bus took off in full speed. He came in its way and got crushed.

The manager of the booth remained indifferent towards the serious condition of the youth. He even instructed the staff members to dial 108 emergency services and get back to their work. Angered by his reaction, the staff members rushed out. The staff informed Mayur’s family members who rushed to the spot. They took him in a car but he died on the way to hospital.

Following this incident, staff members of all the six toll tax booths run by the Sadbhaav Company across the city called a strike on Tuesday night in protest. Members of the Prajapati community also protested against the manager. The vice-president of the community said, “Mayur was hurt badly, but was not provided medical attention on time which led to his death.”

Sub-inspector of Naroda police station SN Chaudhary said, “The bus driver, Hanuman Bishnoi, had fled away after the accident but has been arrested now. The Bishnoi Travels bus has also been detained.”

While sources at the toll tax booth say that the issue has not been resolved, police claim that a compromise had been reached.
