Highlighting the importance of alternative energy sources, Union Minister Farooq Abdullah has said that there would be a time when people will depend on solar and wind energy as the conventional forms of power generation were depleting.
"When there will be no petrol and less availability of hydro-electric energy then we will have to depend on solar and wind energy, which have to be harnessed in a greater way", Abdullah, minister for new and renewable energy said at book
release function on Friday.
Abdullah also used the occasion to clear the air about his portfolio and said that many people in J&K were disappointed that he was not given the tourism ministry.
"How does it matter to me, I create culture everywhere where I go," he said in lighter vein.
At another function yesterday, Abdullah had mentioned about the receding oil reserves in the Gulf region and how several countries were looking for alternative sources of energy.
Switching over to solar, wind and other sources of energy is must for survival, he said.
The Union minister said that he had formulated plans for improving the energy and power situation in J&K as many areas
of the state required electrification.
His ministry will provide assistance in providing renewable energy projects in these areas so that the entire state gets electrified, Abdullah said.
