A man who allegedly tried to break open an ATM of Punjab National Bank at Shapath-4 on SG Highway on Thursday surrendered before the Satellite police on Friday night.

He image was caught on CCTV camera as he tried to break open the ATM. Interestingly, the accused has claimed that he did not attempt to break open the ATM to steal money but just to garner some publicity. The accused, identified as Nikhil Jain is into the business of wholesale cloth trade.

The 25-year-old has an outlet at Gheekanta and originally belongs to Mumbai. Jain's father has a big business in Mumbai but he move to Ahmedabad 8 months ago due to differences with his father.  Jain had gone to break the ATM in his Muruti 800 car, which has been seized by the police.

The attempt to break the ATM had come to the notice, after the security guard at the ATM raised an alarm.

At that time the guard had claimed that he had seen the accused fleeing in a red Maruti car. But the number that the guard had given to the cops turned out to be that of a motorcycle.
