Karnataka home minister V S Acharya today said police would take action against former minister H Halappa, facing allegations of rape, as per "law".
"We will not pre-empt, we will not prompt or sidetrack anything on the issue," Acharya told reporters after chief minister B S Yeddyurappa ordered a CID probe into the allegations.
The woman, who claims that she was sexually assaulted by Halappa, former food and civil supplies minister, has filed
a complaint with the DGP last night, he said.
Asked whether the police would mete out the same treatment to Halappa as was done in the case of self-styled godman Nityananda, who has been arrested and remanded in judicial
custody in two criminal cases, including rape, Acharya said
"there will be no discrimination".
Asked if the incident would hamper BJP's poll prospects in the gram panchayat elections to be held on May 8 and 12, he said 'it will not'
