The Bangur Nagar police, investigating the case of alleged suicide of TV actress of 'Balika Vadu' fame Pratyusha Banerjee, on Saturday, questioned her boyfriend and live-in partner Rahul Raj Singh. Police said that a few of Banerjee's friends has alleged that the duo has been in a troubled relationship in the last few months.
According to Bangur Nagar police, Singh and Banerjee had been living together in their flat on 7th floor of Harmony Apartment, at Link Road in Goregaon (West). On Friday, both Singh and Banerjee were at their residence around noon, when Singh allegedly stepped out for some work and Banerjee took to extreme step.
Police have seized a laptop and mobile phones of the couple, which would be sent to Forensic department for examination. The cops also questioned Singh “to ascertain whether there was any issue between the two”, said an officer adding that “charges cannot be pressed on Singh till enough evidence is obtained.”
Parents of Banerjee too arrived in Mumbai on Saturday morning and gave their statement to police. According to sources, they have acknowledged problems between the two and said they had mediated on previous occasions. “We also recorded statement of watchman, the locksmith, and the neighbours,” said an officer.
Meanwhile, Banerjee's body, which was handed over to her parents after the postmortem in the evening, was cremated at Oshiwara crematorium in the presence of her friends from television industry. Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone XI, Vikram Deshmane said the postmortem report mentioned “ligature marks over neck”, indicating death due to asphyxiation and hanging.
