Agitated locals beat policemen in West Bengal

Four police personnel were injured today, including a sub-inspector critically, after angry locals thrashed them following a road accident in Barasat area of North 24 Parganas district.

Locals got agitated after the death of Md Mubarak Hosain, 46, and were demanding adequate compensation for the victim. After attacking the police team with stones, locals also damaged their jeep, police said. However, no one has been arrested in the incident so far, they said.
 
Later on, fresh police reinforcements were sent to pacify the locals. RAF has also been deployed in the area to ease off tension. Biswas has been admitted to SSKM Hospital in the neighbouring Kolkata, where his condition is stated to be critical, while the other three police personnel have been taken to Barasat Hospital, sources said.
