Agitated residents block rail track in Haryana, 50 injured

Hundreds of residents of Chhotu Ram Nagar and its nearby areas sat on a dharna on the Delhi-Rohtak railway track in the morning, demanding immediate removal of rain water stagnant in the locality.

Enraged over alleged inaction of district authorities in draining out rain water from their area, hundreds of protesters today stopped a train by sitting on a rail track and pelted stones on passengers injuring 50 people in Bahadurgarh city of Haryana.

Hundreds of residents of Chhotu Ram Nagar and its nearby areas sat on a dharna on the Delhi-Rohtak railway track in the morning, demanding immediate removal of rain water stagnant in the locality, Jhajjar SP Sourabh Singh said.

When the Delhi-Jind passenger train stopped, the protesters started pelting stones on passengers, who also retaliated.

Over 50 people sustained injuries during the clash.

Later, the agitated mob tried to torch over six vehicles and two houses. The fire could not cause much damage as it was controlled in time.

Bahadurgarh SDM along with other police officials rushed to the spot but failed to control the agitated mob.

The situation came under control when the train proceeded to Delhi after three hours.

The SP said over 24 people have been booked for disrupting rail movement and damaging government property besides causing injuries to several persons.
