Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held discussions with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in Agra on Friday afternoon for over two hours regarding strategies for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
After spending five days in Varanasi, the RSS chief was in Agra to hold a four-day ‘Samrasta Sammelan’ of RSS swayamsevaks in a bid to galvanize them for next year’s Lok Sabha polls.
During his meeting, Adityanath produced his government’s performance report card to Bhagwat and discussed strategy for the polls.
Though the chief minister called his meeting with the RSS chief a courtesy call, sources claimed that Bhagwat has expressed concern and given him a few tips on how to make his government’s presence felt in rural pockets. He also reminded the CM about the party’s poor performance in rural areas during the Urban Local bodies’ polls last year.
Bhagwat raised the issue of the growing gulf between the government and the organization in UP, pointing out that despite reminders, ministers were not paying attention to development of districts allocated to them.
Bhagwat, however, showed satisfaction over the government’s 11-month rule. He lauded the budget for 2018-2019 and efforts to attract investments by organizing two-day UP Investors’ Summit.
