After the arrest of his accomplice 20 days ago, Kalupur police on Wednesday managed to nab the tantrik who was the mastermind in a swindling case. Samandarnath Madari, 45, was arrested near Sarangpur circle, while he was trying to flee from the city.
According to Kalupur police, Samandarnath and three of his accomplices, including his sons Gopal and Jaypal and brother Thakornath Madari, had cheated Naroda-based businessman Manish Shah of Rs16 lakh. Both the tantriks had taken this amount as their fee to make Shah rich.
Police arrested Thakornath on December 11, but Samandarnath, the kingpin, was absconding. After his arrest, Samandarnath, a resident of Khedbrahma, admitted that he cheated Shah on the pretext of removing the burden of his debt and make him rich.
Samandarnath confessed that he built a house of Rs7 lakh for his son and purchased gold worth Rs1 lakh. He also started money lending business with the money he received from Shah. According to Samandarnath, he and his accomplice received money from Shah at places like Pavagadh, Udaipur, Shamlaji and Khedbrahma.
The tantrik duo met Shah at a restaurant in Kalupur three months back. The duo impressed Shah, who fell in their trap. Thakornath and Samadarnath assured Shah that he would become rich if he bought a special scented stick from them. The tantric duo used to charge Rs 30,000 to Rs 2 lakh per stick. They even performed strange rituals at hotel rooms with Shah to win his confidence.
