Two alert fathers of two minor girls on Saturday thwarted a kidnap bid of their daughters by one Dhiraj Vaghela in Dilli Darwaza area of the city. Vaghela was beaten and handed over to Madhavpura police for further investigation in the matter.
Primary investigations revealed that Vaghela had been stalking two seven-year-old girls, Seema and Manisha (name changed), for the past 4-5 days on their way home from their HB Kapadia School at Dilli Darwaza. According to the girls, Vaghela rode a bicycle and tried to lure them away promising them chocolates and ice-creams. The girls, however, managed to escape his clutches. On Friday, the girls told their fathers about the incident. They hatched a plan to nab Vaghela.
Vaghela, again on Saturday afternoon, lured the girls near Dilli Darwaza on their way back home from school. Little did he know that their fathers were hiding some distance away. As soon as he came close to the girls, their fathers pounced on him and beat him on the spot. A crowd soon gathered and police control room was called.
Madhavpura police came to the scene and arrested the stalker. Vijaysinh Chavda, father of Manisha, lodged a complaint against Vaghela in the matter.
Vaghela's interrogation revealed that he is a resident of Bakramandi of Ranip area. He says his cousin brother works with HB Kapadia School which is the reason why he was in the area. Cops raided his house and found children's clothes all over the place. He alleged that he had bought those clothes for his relatives' kids.
"Vaghela is said to be mentally unstable. An attempt to kidnapping has been lodged against him," said PSI JB Jadhav of Madhavpura Police Station.
Sources revealed that Vaghela was a married man but his wife left him some time back. Six months back he used to live in Shahpur Darwaza health quarters where he was notorious for harassing children.
