Ahmedabad police arrest 16 gamblers from city hotel

The special squad of zone-I deputy commissioner of police (DCP) raided a hotel very close to Vastrapur police station in the wee hours of Friday and arrested 16 people who were gambling there.

The manager of the hotel was also arrested. Sandeep Singh, DCP, zone-I said that the arrested people were gambling at Vibrant Palace Hotel when the squad conducted the raid at 1:00am on Friday. The gamblers included businessmen, contractors and other well-off people.  Police seized Rs71,000 in cash, three cars, four motorbikes and 15 mobiles phones-collectively valued at Rs9.63 lakh.

"They had been playing teen patti (a game of cards) for the last 12 days there and were paying Rs16,000 per night as hotel charges. They were all friends," Singh said.

In all, 19 men were gambling but three managed to escape.

However, Virendra Mehta, manager of the hotel, has been arrested, the DCP further said. All the 17 arrested people were
later handed over to Vastrapur police.
