Ahobila Mutt inmate killed in Chennai

Kanagavalli, a Mutt inmate, was cleaning the premises in the wee hours when she noticed a man hiding in a room nearby.

A 64-year-old woman was today allegedly attacked and killed by a man at the Ahobila Mutt in suburban Selaiyur, police said.

Kanagavalli, a Mutt inmate, was cleaning the premises in the wee hours when she noticed a man hiding in a room nearby.

She then raised an alarm after which the man attacked her with a knife and threw her into a nearby well. He then tried to flee, they said.

The man has been identified as Satyaraj from Madurantakam (in Tamil Nadu).

Locals, who rushed to the spot, surrounded Satyaraj and beat him up. He then later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital, they said, adding the woman died at the mutt itself.

Police said the man had come to steal money and ornaments from the mutt.

A case has been registered.
