The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has got a shot in the arm in its investigation against the alleged murky deals of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda. Vikas Sinha, brother of his close aide Binod Sinha, admitted during interrogation that Koda was taking money from business houses for awarding contracts.

ED officials said Vikas specifically named three companies, which allegedly paid money to Koda to get contracts. One of these three firms is a major power and steel company of the country. The other two are construction companies. One of them is a Hyderabad-based company and the other one is based in Jharkhand capital Ranchi.

According to sources, Vikas was privy of almost all the money-making operations of his brother Binod Sinha and former CM Koda. Vikas told ED sleuths that around 40 memorandums of understanding were signed during the tenure of Koda wherein money passed hands. The ED is verifying Vikas’ claims.

According to sources, Vikas disclosed that for one contract of around Rs 600 crore, a commission of nearly 3 per cent was allegedly taken by Koda and his cronies. This contract was
awarded to the Ranchi-based construction company.

Vikas also provided details of money laundering techniques of Koda and his aides to the ED. Vikas revealed that his brother Binod used to give cash to different companies through trusted chartered accountants and get back cheques in return.

Koda had provided around 500 motorcycles to his supporters during the April-May 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Vikas said. The former chief minister had won the Singhbhum seat.
