Defence minister AK Antony will visit Jammu tomorrow to review the security situation in the region.
The defence minister will be accompanied by Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor, defence secretary Pradeep Kumar and various other defence ministry officials during the one-day visit, ministry officials said.
His visit comes against the backdrop of a suicide attack on Lal Chowk in Srinagar by militants last week.
During the visit, senior police and military commanders will brief the defence minister about the counter-insurgency operations and operational preparedness of the forces in the state, they said.
Antony will visit forward areas in Rajouri and Poonch sectors in the Jammu region and will later address a meeting at the Unified Headquarters to be attended by various forces including the State Police and Central Para Military Forces.
In the last two years, the Indian Army has pulled out 30,000 troops from Jammu and Kashmir after improvement in the security situation in the state.
