With the protests against the arrest of veteran social activist Anna Hazare intensifying across the nation, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has called an emergency meeting with his senior ministers to monitor the situation.

According to television reports, Dr Singh is presently discussing the situation that has arisen following Hazare's arrest.

Meanwhile, thousands of supporters have gathered in various cities across the country and pressing for the immediate release of the 74-year-old Gandhian.

Anna Hazare and his team are in discussions with the government and police over the venue of the fast.

According to latest reports, Delhi Police is insisting that the fast onto death protest be limited to five days at J.P Park. But Hazare and his team have said that they are okay with a change of venue, but must be allowed to fast for at least a month.

Delhi Police arrested Hazare on Tuesday along with many of his supporters; hours before he was due to begin an indefinite hunger strike to demand tough laws against corruption.
