Four party general secretaries were inducted into the Union council of ministers in the second term of the UPA government.

The new year is expected to bring fresh faces in the AICC secretariat as many party functionaries have been inducted in the central government.

At present, nearly half a dozen vacancies lie in the party hierarchy, but sources indicated that a reshuffle has been postponed to the new year.

They said there was no "immediate urgency" for filling up the vacant posts and adhere to the 'one-person one-post' formula as no elections were near.
