Aiming at enabling listeners to reach out its popular Vividh Bharati service on their mobile phones and car stereos with greater clarity, All India Radio (AIR) is all set to launch the transmission of the service in FM mode in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai.
Officials said that in a meeting of the Prasar Bharati Board on Thursday, it was conveyed that AIR is ready for the inauguration of the launch of its Vividh Bharati service in FM mode in these three metros. The Vividh Bharati service is already available in the FM mode in Kolkata.
Underlining the importance of broadcasting on the FM mode, a senior official said that it would lead to a better penetration of the AIR's content even in areas where the Medium Wave signals don't reach with the same clarity.
"There were some issues regarding to reception of the signals, especially in built up areas earlier. But now in the FM mode, the entertainment content of the Vividh Bharati service will be much more clear and accessible in all the four metros," the official said.
During today's meeting, a discussion took place on how to inculcate a more professional atmosphere in AIR and Doordarshan.
In the board meeting, which was chaired by Prasar Bharati Chairperson A Surya Prakash, it was also considered as to how the talent can be utilised by the public broadcaster in the best possible way, the official said.
