The government on Friday said that the process of evacuation of Indians stranded in strife-torn Libya would be completed by March 10.

“We expect to complete evacuation of all those desirous of leaving Libya by March 10. Some Indian nationals have opted to stay in Libya,” Preneet Kaur, minister of state for external affairs said.

By Friday night, 9,209 Indian nationals would have been evacuated, including 1,450 out of Tripoli and Sehba by special Air India flights, the minister added.

Kaur’s response came after Elders expressed concern of slow pace of evacuation following which Rajya Sabha chairman RM Khan directed the government to apprise the House of steps being taken to bring back Indians.
