Union minister of state for posts and telecom, Sachin Pilot said here today that by 2012, all panchayats in the country will be connected with the broadband facility.
"Each and every panchayat of the country will be connected with the broadband facility by the year 2012," Pilot told reporters here at the BSNL office.
He said that the internet penetration in the country at present stands at just eight per cent and efforts are on to provide the facility to maximum number of people soon, specially in rural areas.
Referring to the problems of call-drop and congestion in the BSNL's network, he said that he has directed the company's official to rectify the problem soon.
"Our emphasis will be on improving the quality of service instead of numbers. We will not compromise on quality," he stressed.
He also informed on the occasion that his ministry is developing a software in 22 official languages of the country so that nobody is deprived from the fruits of IT development because of language problem.
Referring to the auction of 3G spectrum and BWA, he said that the government has got more than Rs 1 lakh crore out of it which is a major achievement for the country, specially for its economy in the days to come.
To a question, he said that the 3G services will be launched in the state within two-three weeks time.
