Here's more about the former cricketer turned politician.

BJP was criticised during the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections for not giving tickets to Muslims. After coming to power in the state, the party has appointed one Muslim minister, Mohsin Raza, in its government.

Who is Mohsin Raza?

A first-class cricketer turned politician, Raza is not only a huge persona in politics and activism but also well known in Lucknow's social circle, says a News18 report.

He had a brief stint in the glamour and entertainment industry as well. He was crowned 'Prince Lucknow' in 1995. He played a role in the famous Doordarshan serial 'Neem Ka Ped'. However, he could not make a career in the Hindi film industry.

Raza is a Shia Muslim and married to Fozia Sarwat Fatima, who is a Sunni. Fatima belongs to a well known family and is related to BJP leader Najma Heptullah.

Raza is from a family of zamindars in Unnao’s Safipur. His family has been traditionally loyal to the Congress. Raza too was associated with the party for sometime after he was made chairman of Congress’ sports cell. But he quit the party following internal issues.

He later formed his outfit called ‘Safipur Vikas Manch’ in 2010.

In 2014, he joined the BJP and became a spokesperson for the party. He has a good relationship with Rajnath Singh and his son Pankaj.
