Samajwadi party leader Amar Singh today denied that his party favoured the interests of Anil Ambani in the gas dispute between the two Ambani brothers, and said he was more concerned about protecting the interests of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).
"Anil Ambani is like a brother to me but the fact of the matter is that I was not in the country, when the dispute was at its peak (between Anil and Mukesh Ambani over gas) and we don't interfere in each others' areas of interest.
"The perception is that we support Anil Ambani. Mulayam Singhji is not interested in any party, including myself. In fact, being the elected member of the Committee on PublicUndertakings (COPU), I have always batted for protecting the interests of NTPC," he said while speaking to reporters here.
Singh also said, "I have written several letters to the prime minister (on gas dispute) but nothing has happened. They say that gas is a natural resource and it should not be a property of any individual.
"As a public servant I will always bat for public sector companies and (in relation to this dispute) it is my duty to protect the interests of NTPC."
He added that on the gas dispute, the views of solicitor general Gopal Subramanium, Attorney General G E Vahanavati and CAG should be considered by those who alleged that SP is biased towards a specific party.
