Municipal commissioner Guruprasad Mohapatra will present, on Monday, the budget of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) for financial year 2013-14. He is likely to stress upon exploring new revenue options, besides expenditure on basic amenities and sanitation and easing of traffic in the city.
Mohapatra had presented a budget of Rs4,181 crore for the financial year 2012-13, which was taken up to Rs4511 crore by BJP-ruled standing committee. The commissioner is likely to make a provision of Rs4,300 crore in the budget for the next fiscal.
The AMC is likely to augment its revenue by proposing an increase in property tax, vacant land tax and other levies. It may create a new revenue source by introducing parking fee.
About Rs425 crore may go to zonal capital works, while solid waste management may be allocated Rs450 crore.
The AMC is likely to propose five new flyovers. The Central Road Research Institute had surveyed 34 traffic junctions in the city and suggested building of flyovers at all 34 junctions in a phased manner.
In addition, the third phase of model road conversion is likely to be announced. Proposals for developing 15 new gardens and 15 new waters distribution centres are also likely.
