AMC corporators’ Brazil dream finally comes true

Eleven AMC officials to attend World Urban Forum V at Rio de Janeiro.

Finally, eight AMC corporators and three officials will be dancing the Brazilian samba! A 11- member team from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation headed by mayor Kanaji Thakore, will attend the World Urban Forum V in Rio De Janeiro in Brazil March 22-26.

Thakore's team includes seven more corporators and three AMC officials. The seven members of the political wing of  AMC include deputy mayor Kalpanaben Bhatt, leader of the BJP Dr Kamlesh Patel, chairman of road and building committee Manu Katharotia, chairman of water supply and sewerage committee Hasmukh Patel, chairman of  health and solid waste management committee Praful Patel, chairman of estate and town planning committee Dr Anil Patel and chairperson of EWS and housing committee, Savita Shrimali.

The three officials in Thakore's delegation are from Sabarmati Riverfront Development -- deputy municipal commissioner captain Dilip Mahajan, Dipak Trivedi and Jagdish Patel.

Asit Vora, chairman of AMC's standing committee and Surendra Baxi, leader of the opposition in AMC have opted out of the tour.
A grant of Rs24 lakh from HUDCO's R&D fund would have lapsed if it were not utilised by March 31, said Vora while explaining the reasons for the trip. He also said that the civic body has selected only those chairpersons of the committee who are directly related to the urban infrastructure.
