Amid sprouting of fake Twitter accounts, ISRO says K Sivan does not have any personal social media profile

Amid sprouting of Twitter accounts imitating ISRO and its chairman K Sivan, the Indian space agency on Monday clarified that it has one account on the microblogging platform. 

This came after a barrage of support for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and its chairman following a heartbreaking setback of Chandrayaan-2 mission. In the early hours of Saturday, the Lander of Chandrayaan-2 - Vikram - lost contact with the mission control at an altitude of 2.1 km from the lunar surface.

Taking advantage of the situation, several fake Twitter accounts were made in his name. 

Thousands of people fell for the fake accounts with one handle touching 40,000 followers mark within a day. 

Clarifying, ISRO on Monday said Mr Sivan does not have any personal account on any social media platforms.

"It has been noted that social media accounts in the name of Kailasavadivoo Sivan (along with photographs of K Sivan) is operational and active on social media platforms. This is to clarify that K Sivan, Chairman, ISRO does not have any personal account on any social media platforms," ISRO said in a statement. 

Hence all the information on all such accounts are not authentic, it added.
