The 74 lakh vehicles in the state will be issued temporary registration certificates.

A government order in Telangana had decreed that everyone who has a vehicle registration with ‘AP’ number plate has to now change them. The new number plates for Telangana will be ‘TS’ number plates.

A report in a leading daily states that the guidelines and fees for this will be announced at a later date by the government. This government order (GO) came out on Thursday and is said to be done under rule 81-A of the Motor Vehicle (MV) Rules.

The order states, “In place of group of letters (i.e. AP) and code of registering authority under whose jurisdiction already the vehicle was registered or assigned, the vehicle bearing number, shall be substituted by the new group of letters (TS) and new code allotted to the district code/registering authority, without disturbing the last four numerical digits and series.”

All vehicle owners will reportedly have a time period of about four months to make this change. The time period may also be extended says the GO. Transport commissioner Sandeep Sultania has said they will issue the guidelines that need to be followed for this process soon, the report adds.

The 74 lakh vehicles in the state will be issued temporary registration certificates (RC). These will be posted on their official website.
