After successful campaign in support of Anna Hazare's movement and the subsequent appointment of Gujarat Lok Ayukta by the governor following sustained demands, youth organisations and civil society activists have every reason to celebrate.
These groups, however, want to sustain this momentum and nurture spirit of the common man against odds prevailing in the system.
Right to Information (RTI) activist Bharatsinh Zala is planning to spread awareness among youth about this act. "After witnessing the enthusiasm among young men regarding Anna's crusade, I want to equip them with a tool to fight against corruption. I will be going to colleges and talking to students about RTI act. I will try to motivate students to file RTI applications about implementation of various government schemes in their areas."
Gautam Thaker, general secretary of People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) Gujarat unit, said, "The appointment of Lok Ayukta (in the state) has been challenged in the Gujarat high court. We will now keep track of the case till verdict comes out."
Manish Brahmbhatt, founder member of UVA Azadi, which held protests at Income Tax crossroads said, "Our group is starting 'time donation' programme from Tuesday in various colleges to motivate youngsters to fight against corruption. Around 400-500 teachers will be educated on Jan Lokpal Bill through this mass movement."
Amdavadi Anna - Chandrakant Barot, who started his fast with Hazare on August 16, said, "This is just half the battle won. I will be meeting him (Annaji) in the coming week to know the further plan of action for this movement."
