Anti-encroachment drive in Srinagar

More than 8,000 illegal vendors line the footpath from Poloview in Lal chowk to Batmaloo in the East of the city, hampering smooth movement of pedestrians who are forced to walk on the roads.

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday launched a drive in Srinagar to remove illegal vendors from pavements on the orders of the High Court.

The drive has jointly been launched by the police and civic agencies. Enforcing authorities had to use force at some places to evict the offenders.
