An activist spearheading the protest against Kudankulam Nuclear Power project today sent a legal notice to Minister of State in the PMO, V Narayanasamy threatening to sue him for his reported charge that he had received Rs1.50 crore from foreign sources.

SP Uthayakumar, Convenor of People's Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE), in the notice to Narayanasamy through his counsel M Radhakrishnan, said he would initiate criminal proceedings if an apology was not tendered within three days of receipt of the notice.

"Kindly take notice that you have, by making a statement to the press that my client's NGO received foreign funds to the tune of Rs1.50 crore, defamed my client and committed an offence," Radhakrishnan said.

He charged Narayanasamy with making the allegation with an intention to harm his client's reputation and the said imputation "lowers the moral character of my client and also lowers the credit of my client in the eyes of the public."

"By making such imputation you have harmed my client's reputation and acted contrary to public interest."

If the Minister failed to apologise within three days from the date of receipt of the notice, "my client will be forced to initiate appropriate civil and criminal proceedings against you at your costs," the notice said.
