THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Veteran Congress politician A.K. Antony is most likely to be sworn in as cabinet minister on Tuesday evening by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, according to former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy.

Chandy said that Antony and veteran Congress politician Karan Singh are likely to be among the new cabinet ministers being inducted.

"It is certain that Antony would become a cabinet minister," said Chandy.

If Antony, a former Kerala chief minister, makes it to the federal cabinet, it would be for the second time he would be part of the central government. In 1993 he was food and civil supplies minister in the P.V. Narashima Rao cabinet.

Meanwhile, the telephone at the residence of 65-year-old Antony hasn't stopped ringing since early Tuesday after news was flashed that he could be inducted as a cabinet minister.

Elizabeth Antony, his wife, said, "This morning Thankachen (Antony is called Thankachen) called me up, but as always he never said anything and since he did not tell me anything I also did not ask about his likely induction into the cabinet."

"I have by now received several calls from several people of the media," said Elizabeth, an officer with Canara Bank.

Antony is currently in New Delhi.
