Mauni Baba is reported to have told the striking students that they would have the last laugh in their struggle against reservations.

BHOPAL: Medical and engineering students of Madhya Pradesh, who are striking against OBC reservations in educational institutes, Monday adopted a unique protest strategy. Instead of hitting the streets to demonstrate their opposition, they approached Arjun Singh’s spiritual guru, Mauni Baba of Ujjain. They went into his ashram on the Kshipra River’s Ganga Ghat in Ujjain and urged the Baba to persuade that his famous disciple, who is seen as the person behind introducing reservations at this stage, to change his mind.

A group of about 50 students went to the ashram before noon and sought the Baba’s blessings.

Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh is a known follower of this mysterious godman who has not spoken as long as anyone can remember. The baba, in his late 70s, communicates by writing on a slate with chalk. Arjun Singh has been visiting him since the former’s days as the MP Chief Minister in early 80s.

Sources in Ujjain told DNA over telephone that the Mauni Baba is reported to have told the striking students that they would have the last laugh in their struggle against reservations. “Jeet aap logon ki hi hogi (eventually victory will be on your side)”, the Mauni baba is understood to have written on his slate.
