Goa Democratic Front (GDF) president Dayanand Narvekar today demanded immediate arrest of former chief minister Digambar Kamat for his alleged involvement in the mining scam.
"If Sahara chief Subrato Roy can be in jail for Rs 10,000 crore, why can't Digambar Kamat be in jail for the Rs 35,000 crore mining scam," Narvekar, who is contesting as an independent from the North Goa parliamentary seat, said at a press conference here.
Former Goa law minister Narvekar demanded that Kamat should be arrested immediately since his role in the mining scam had become crystal clear.
In its report, the Justice M B Shah Commission had blamed the then mines minister former Goa CM Digambar Kamat for being involved in the illegal mining scam.
The Goa police crime branch which is investigating the case has already arrested the Goa government mines and geology department's former director Arvind Lolienkar for his involvement in the illegal mining scam.
Narvekar said that Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar knows about people who are involved in the scam.
"Everyone knows who is involved in the scam. There are 400 traders who were involved in illegal mining. It will take four years to arrest all of them," the former law minister said, adding that the Goa government should put the kingpins behind bars and recover the money from them.
