NEW DELHI: Attacks against any community, particularly Christians, would not be tolerated, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said here on Sunday.

Dikshit was speaking at the annual day celebrations of St. Peter's cathedral church at Gole Market.

She said: "Recent attacks on religious places of Christian community are condemnable and we all are supposed to strongly deplore such incidents."

She added the attacks are unwarranted in a country that is proud of having a unique constitution that guarantees equal rights and freedom of expression and faith to all.

"We must resist, oppose and fight such incidents and work towards preserving the secular fabric of our nation," she said.

Over two dozen churches have been attacked in Karnataka over the past week. This follows similar clashes in Orissa in which at least 25 people died after the killing of a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader. A cathedral in Madhya Pradesh was also torched.
