MUMBAI: Recent reports prepared by the Intelligence Bureau and the State Intelligence Department (SID) had hinted at the possibility of an attack on the RSS headquarters.

The reports were prepared three months ago, an SID official said. “We received specific intelligence that the RSS headquarters and similar important buildings in Nagpur could be targeted by Kashmir-based terrorists,” the official said.

Joint Commissioner of Police KP Raghuvamshi, who heads the Anti-Terrorist Squad, said, “Police could act effectively as there were solid intelligence tip-offs.” Raghuvamshi said the Kashmir link in the attack “is more than clear”.

Another ATS officer, who asked not to be named, said, “Since the white Ambassador the terrorists were travelling in bore an Aurangabad registration number we will be exploring allied links to the attack.”
