An eight-year-old boy had to pay with his life in east Delhi when his 'revengeful' aunt allegedly strangled him to teach his father a lesson for interfering in her marital life, the police said today.

The shocking incident took place in Madhu Vihar yesterday afternoon and the accused Shivangi went to a police station soon after the incident to own up the murder, a story which the cops initially found hard to believe.

Shivangi took Lakshya, a class II student of Amity School, out of his flat in Sitaram Apartments on the pretext of going for a walk, a senior police officer said.

"She told his parents that they were going for a walk. But she went upstairs, strangled him and dumped his body in a water tank in the apartments. From there she went to a police station where she surrendered," the officer said.

She told policemen that she had murdered the young boy but they could not believe her version. Police rushed to the Apartments and a search yielded the body of the boy, the official said.

"Shivangi wanted to teach her brother Raj Kumar a lesson for interfering in her marital life. She wanted to take revenge on him for her problems. She held her brother responsible for her separation with her husband," he said.

She accused her brother, who runs a spare parts business in Karol Bagh, of creating a discord in her marital life.

There were some meetings to find a solution to her problems but nothing feasible came up, the official said adding she was irritated about it.

The body has been sent for postmortem. A case has been registered.
