Left parties and 12 other non-Congress, non-BJP parties have called the bandh to protest the government's alleged failure to check the rise in prices of essential commodities.

The bandh called by the Left parties and their allies to protest price rise failed to evoke any response in the capital today with vehicles plying as usual and shops and offices functioning normally.

While the hartal call had an impact in many states like West Bengal, Kerala and Orissa, it had little impact in the capital.

Shops were open and attendance was normal in offices and educational institutions.

Those supporting the bandh call took out a peaceful march in central Delhi's Daryaganj area.
