Bangalore: 7 who raped law student booked under Goonda Act

The city police have invoked the Goonda Act against seven people who allegedly raped a 21-year-old girl last year.

Following the state government’s measures to prevent sexual assaults on women, the city police have invoked the Goonda Act against seven people who allegedly raped a 21-year-old law student of National Law School of India University in October last year. 

“We have booked seven persons arrested under the Goonda Act. One more man identified as Raja is still at large,” DC Rajappa, deputy commissioner of police (west), said on Monday.

The arrested were Mallesha 20, Maddura, 20, Doddaerayya, 19, Shivanna, 20, Erayya, 20, Yallaiah, 23, and Rama, 50, all from Mettaradoddi in Ramanagara.

They had come to smuggle sandalwood in the Jnana Bharathi campus on the evening the girl was raped. The girl and her boyfriend Nikhil were going to her hostel in his car when the gang attacked them around 9.30 pm near the university administrative building. After attacking Nikhil, they dragged the girl to an isolated place where she was allegedly raped. The night beat police came to their help.

Of the accused, Rama was arrested after being shot in his leg while trying to escape.
