Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is all set to visit India from October 3-6 to hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on various issues.
The implementation of National Register of Citizens in Assam is likely to be among the issues which will be discussed in the meeting between the leaders, the Hindustan Times reported.
On August 31, Assam became the first state to implement the NRC which excluded 19 lakh people currently residing in the state.
In the meeting, the Bangladesh PM is likely to express her concerns for the people excluded from the NRC amid fear that they could be deported.
However, those left out can still apply to the designated Foreigners' Tribunals within 120 days for their cases to be heard.
The decision to hold talks on the NRC by Sheikh Hasina comes amidst a statement from Assam minister Hemanta Biswas Sharma who claimed that Bangladesh has to accept citizens from its country who settled in India illegally.
Earlier, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visited Bangladesh and held talks with his Bangladeshi counterpart AK Abdul Momen in Dhaka and called on Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
They discussed various issues including Teesta water-sharing agreement, NRC and the Rohingya issue.
In the meeting with Bangladesh FM, Jaishankar made it clear that the identification of illegal immigrants in Assam is India's "internal matter".
During EAM's call on with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he extended PM Modi's invite for India visit in October.
Sheikh Hasina will also address the India Economic Summit of the World Economic Forum on October 4.
