Brand Bengaluru finally has a logo and a tagline to go along with it. The brand 'Bengaluru - Be U' (be you) is expected to build the city's image on an international platform. Only a select group of cities in the world like New York City, Melbourne and Singapore have a tourism logo of their own.

The logo was unveiled in the presence of Bengaluru development minister KJ George, Gandhinagar MLA Dinesh Gundu Rao, Shantinagar MLA NA Haris and Bengaluru mayor Sampath Raj on Sunday at Vidhana Soudha.

The logo was selected from 1,350 entries and the was devised by bankers-turned-designers Rushi Patel and M Venkateswara Rao, founders of Nammur, a design firm.

The red and black logo is part English and part Kannada.

“It was an open contest after a brief had come in the papers. Uru is taken from Kannada and we have done the typography to match the Kannada font. The typography was created in-house from scratch,” Vinod Kumar, creative designer at Nammur, was quoted as saying by The News Minute.

"We wanted the ‘Be’ and ‘u’ to stand out,” he added.

Besides the English-Kannada logo, there is only-Kannada design too.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said "Bengaluru - the most enterprising, dynamic, progressive & glocal city - allows U to be yourself."

"Launching Brand Bengaluru - the most enterprising, dynamic, progressive & glocal city; a city that allows U to be yourself. Participate in the #NammaBengaluruHabba near Vidhan Soudha today, and celebrate Namma Ooru Bengaluru," he said ahead of the launch.

Priyank Kharge, the minister Minister IT-BT and Tourism, said that the "identity" will "tell the Bengaluru stories across the globe".

"#NammaBengaluru gets its own identity. A city steeped in history, culture, art, cuisines. A identity that will tell the Bengaluru stories across the globe. #NammaBengaluruHabba," he tweeted.
