The CPI(M) today decided to organise rallies all over West Bengal on November 8 to protest against US president Barack Obama's visit to the country.
CPI(M) state secretary Biman Bose today said that the protests would be held in the state as part of a country-wide protest programme chalked up by four Left parties.
"Rallies and street corner meetings will be held all over West Bengal on November 8 to oppose the anti-humanity acts and aggression worldwide by US imperialism," Bose said in a statement after a two-day state committee meeting of the party.
Bose claimed that the CPI(M)'s efforts to regain ground lost to the Trinamool Congress, as reflected in the panchayat elections in 2008 and other subsequent elections, were yielding results.
Reading out reports from the district party units in the state committee meeting, Bose said, "There has been a positive sign (in favour of the party) as the situation was reviewed. There has been an increasing response of the people to the programmes of the party and the Left Front."
Bose said that big rallies were taking place at the call of the party and there was growing urge of the people to protest against attempts to create anarchy and terror.
Assembly polls in West Bengal are due in 2011.
