Bengaluru: Schoolboy commits suicide after alleged harassment by school principal

15-year-old Vijay who was a student at St Paul's English School in Yeshwanthpur took his own life due to alleged harassment by his school principal, the Bangalore Mirror reports. 

According to the report, in July, the school principal, Parvin Taj, had asked Vijay to fix her laptop as he had a flair for doing electrical work. When the laptop crashed, she reportedly harassed him saying he needed to pay Rs. 40,000 to cover the cost of the laptop. The report states that when he didn’t turn up with money she suspended him from school for 10 days. 

Vijay had not disclosed what had happened to his parents. He became depressed and ended up hanging himself on July 26 in his house. Vijay’s parents found out about the alleged harassment from his classmates.

The report states that two days after the father had buried his son, he got a call to meet the local MLA. At MLA Munirathna's house, the school principal was present and she admitted she was at fault. The parents were reportedly offered Rs. 50,000 to not to file a complaint. 

After two months of being under pressure, Vijay’s parents filed a complaint against the school principal on September 15 states the report. The principal is now absconding and police is trying to trace her. They have a registered a case of abetment to suicide under section 306 against her. Meanwhile, the MLA has denied the claims of offering money, the report adds.
