Complainants allege loss of more than Rs1.20 crore through cheating by people known to them.

From the number of complaints at various police stations in recent days, it seems that financial cheating is on the rise in the western part of the city.

For easy money, people do not spare even their near and dear ones, and cheat neighbours, relatives and friends.

Shockingly, the amount of cheating in each complaint runs into lakhs of rupees. Last week, complainants alleged loss of more than Rs1.20 crore through cheating by people known to them.

Last week, four such complaints were registered at various police stations in the western part of the city.

On Monday, three police stations received three separate complaints of cheating amounting to more than Rs45 lakh in a single day. The money lost ranges from Rs15000 to Rs45.51 lakh, in cases registered at Karanj, Sola and Naranpura police stations.

In his complaint to Karanj police, one Vanraj Hajipara, a resident of Vastral, alleged that two persons convinced his father Girdharlal to help them with Rs15000. According to him, the duo, Dilip and Sanjay, approached his father near Bhadra and asked for some money for the treatment of Dilip's son, who is admitted in Sterling hospital. However, after taking the money, they vanished.

In another complaint filed at Sola police station, Vishnu Patel, owner of tractor showroom near Sola high court, alleged that four persons purchased tractors worth Rs45.51 lakh from him, and sold them to others. Patel named these four as Allarakha Memon, Raziyabanu Mohammad Razzaq, Asif Memon and Moh Sadiq Memon.

In her complaint to Naranpura police, one Sonal Shah, resident of Usmanpura, alleged that two persons, claiming to be scooter dealers, convinced her of delivery of one Activa and two Suzuki scooters and took Rs1.62 lakh before vanishing.

According to her, one Mittal Shah and Bijal Shah cheated her by taking money in advance for the delivery of three scooters.
