Power politics was on full display during the bandh in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
If the bandh was near-total in Punjab and Himachal, where BJP is in power, the response was lukewarm in Congress-ruled Haryana.
In Himachal and Punjab, the state governments indirectly supported the bandh by ordering closure of educational institutions and taking public transport off roads. Though no untoward incident occurred in Punjab, workers of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP alliance disrupted rail traffic at about a dozen places and forced shopkeepers to down shutters.
In Himachal, government offices recorded thin attendance. All educational institutions remained closed, while public transport was also non-operational for most part of the day.
